Thousands of people attended the funeral of Palestinian teenager Ahmed Sharaka in Ramallah on Monday, with mourners marching through the West Bank town chanting religious and political slogans. The 13-year-old was shot dead by Israeli forces during clashes next to a nearby Jewish settlement on Sunday. Tensions continue to mount in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories with ongoing violence and reprisals, initially stemming from weeks of clashes over the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in east Jerusalem, as well as the construction of illegal Jewish settlements in the West Bank. According to the Palestinian Health Ministry 25 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli security forces since October 3, with more than 1,300 left injured. Sharaka becomes the 24th Palestinian to be killed this month by either Israeli security forces or in stabbing attacks, while four Israelis, including two settlers, have been killed in Palestinian knife attacks.
