A Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) Il-76 plane carrying 20 tons of humanitarian aid landed at Latakia airport, Monday, before evacuating 87 people to Moscow the day after. Members of the Red Crescent unloaded the humanitarian aid, which included canned meat, fish, milk and sugar. Alexander Tomashov, Deputy Director of EMERCOM's Department of International Activities, said the humanitarian aid has been delivered "on behalf of the Russian Federation to the Syrian party." The aircraft returned back to Moscow on Tuesday with 54 Russian citizens, 12 Syrians, 10 Ukrainians and citizens of Kazakhstan and Belarus, all of whom wanted to escape the conflict zone. All 87 people were hosted in a hotel upon arrival in Moscow. This flight is the ninth special flight sent by EMERCOM to the country since the situation in Syria started to deteriorate.
