Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday that the Israeli Air Force had "heavily pounded Iranian targets in Syria after Iran fired a missile towards our territory."
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the new Ramon Airport in southern Israel's Timna Valley, he claimed that his government doesn't "allow such acts of aggression to go unanswered as Iran attempts to establish itself militarily in Syria."
"We act against Iran and also against the Syrian forces that aid the Iranian aggression. Whoever tries to harm us, we will harm them," added the prime minister.
The Iranian missile was reportedly launched from the outskirts of Damascus in the direction of the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights but was intercepted by Israel's Iron Dome missile defence system.
According to an Israeli military spokesperson the Israeli air force responded by targeting an alleged Iranian intelligence installation as well as an alleged Iranian military training camp and munitions storage.
According to media reports, at least 11 people including 4 Syrian soldiers were killed with 6 wounded as the result of the attack.
