Officials assessed the structural damage inflicted upon the village of Visso, Thursday, after two earthquakes struck central Italy in quick succession the previous day.
Visso, which was at the the first earthquake’s epicentre, was hit at around 19:11 local time (17:11 GMT). The quake measured 5.5 on the Richter scale and could be felt across the region, as far as Rome some 240 km (149 miles). The second, a 6.1-magnitude quake, struck the same area at around 21:18 local time (19:18 GMT). Several dozen people have been treated for light injuries so far, while four have are said to have been seriously hurt.
Italian authorities are also still dealing with the aftermath of an earthquake from two months ago, which killed nearly 300 people. According to Italian officials, the twin tremors may have been aftershocks from the August 24 earthquake.
