02.10.2016
Protesters rallied against a refugee camp in the town of Harmanli, in Bulgaria, on Sunday. The Harmanli centre currently has the capacity for 2,700 people, though the State Agency for Refugees plans to expand the site; adding room for 400 more refugees.
The demonstrators gathered in front of the regional administration building waving Bulgarian flags and holding banners reading "Bulgaria above all! Refugees out!" The protest was attended by Deputy in the European Parliament for the Bulgarian National Movement (VMRO) Angel Dhambazki and the leader of the party Krasimir Karakachanov.
Dhambazki stated: "These people are not welcome. They are not welcome because they are different from us. They are different in cultural, civilization, historical and religious way."
He added, "So, we insist on these camps to be not just turned into a closed kind or open kind and any kind at all, but to be removed. We insist on that the people in the refugee centre to be extradited to where they came from or go back to Erdogan. We don't care."
