Russia is "calmly and pragmatically" carrying on with its preparations for the 2018 World Cup despite the recent turmoil at FIFA, Russian Sports Minister Vitali Mutko said in Samara, Wednesday. Speaking at a press conference, the minister emphasised that Russia was working to meet all its obligations to FIFA. He also thanked the FIFA Secretary-General Jerome Valcke who, along with his entourage, visited Samara on a working visit, Wednesday. Swiss authorities are investigating the awarding of the World Cups of 2018 to Russia and 2022 to Qatar, following the arrest of several FIFA officials on bribery and corruption charges. In total, around 14 FIFA officials and associated persons are said to face corruption and bribery charges involving around €92m ($100m) worldwide.
