US Senator Bernie Sanders visited the Franklin Pierce University in New Hampshire, Saturday, where 500 supporters gave the Democratic presidential hopeful a warm welcome.
Sanders spoke about the dangers of unsustainable energy and its effects on the Earth's atmosphere, before condemning inequality in the US, stating that "today in America, one family, the Walton family, now owns more wealth than the bottom forty percent," before adding "and with that I'm taking off my jacket, it has upset me."
The US presidential hopeful went to slam the "the wealthiest family in America" for paying their workers at Walmart low wages, leading many to claim food stamps and medicaid. Sanders stressed that Walmart is the "largest private sector employer in America," adding that "they are really grateful that the middle class is helping to subsidise a multi, multi billion dollar family."
"So I say to the Walton family, the wealthiest family in America. Get off of Welfare, pay your workers a living wage," continued the Vermont Senator.
After a close defeat to Hillary Clinton in Iowa last week, polls have placed Bernie Sanders ahead by 20 percent in New Hampshire.
