SOT, Rizal, Protester (Indonesian): "When I got arrested, I was put into a car, inside the car the police then beat my head and chest. I remember there were 4 to 5 policemen inside the car yelling at me, I did not know why they did that as we are holding a peaceful demonstration."

Protesters from the Workers and People movement of Indonesia (GEBRAK) flooded Jakarta on Friday to rally against the government's proposed labor law reforms.
Footage shows the protesters from GEBRAK demonstrating against the reforms and a heavy police and security presence in the area. More than 20 protesters were reportedly arrested.
"When I got arrested, I was put into a car, inside the car the police then beat my head and chest. I remember there were 4 to 5 policemen inside the car yelling at me, I did not know why they did that as we are holding a peaceful demonstration," said protester Rizal.
The Indonesian government's proposed labor law reforms include a reduction in severance pay, a reduction of the national minimum wage and a reduction in maternity leave.
President Widodo tabled the reforms during his 2019 presidential election campaign; he reportedly sees the changes as a way to increase foreign investment in the country. The proposals sparked fierce opposition from workers and labor unions.
