‘Quilty the Cat’ is doing time for the crime of releasing his furry companions at the Friends for Life animal shelter in Houston, Texas. After releasing over a dozen cats on three different occasions, Quilty was handed a harsh penalty in the cat’s room: solitary confinement.
According to a post made on the shelter’s Facebook page, the troublemaker caused distress in the animal shelter after letting several other cats out of the senior room several times a day.
“They enjoyed their nighttime escapades around the shelter. The staff, however, did not miss the morning cat wrangling, so we’ll just have to agree to disagree there,” the post read.
Footage made on November 6 and November 7 shows Quilty lying on the floor behind a locked door trying to break free and jumping up and down hoping to pull the handle on the door and escape detention.
After the footage of Quilty’s captivity went viral on social media, the hashtags #FreeQuilty and #QuiltyNotGuilty won the internet’s heart. A user even created an Instagram account for the famous feline @free_quilty, which has almost 30k followers.
According to reports, the popular commotion didn’t work and Quilty’s sentence remains in place. The criminal cat, however, managed to escape anyway before being brought back to solitary.
