28.10.2016
The keel laying ceremony of a new advanced corvette warship 'The Derzky' took place at the Northern Shipyard in St. Petersburg, Friday, to mark the start of the vessel's construction. The building of the vessel is part of the project 20386 and is set to be completed by 2021.
At the ceremony, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Naval Forces, Viktor Bursuk, said that the ship is "a logical continuation of the series of corvettes 20380" and "is a breakthrough to the future."
The guard ship was developed by the Almaz design bureau and will be equipped with the latest hardware and weaponry. Among them are Kalibr missiles, torpedoes, anti-aircraft guns and artillery. The vessel is to carry a helicopter and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on its deck. Moreover, the ship is said to be almost invisible to radars thanks to its stealth technology. The vessel has a 3,400 tonnage displacement, a combined gas turbine and an electric power unit, with almost 30,000 horse power in total.
The Derzky is to be handed over to the Russian Navy for deployment to middle and off-shore maritime zones and protection of coastal facilities.
