Greece: Thousands of trade unionists protest pension reforms in Athens

23.01.2016
Thousands of trade unionists of the communist-aligned All Workers' Militant Front (PAME) gathered in central Athens, Saturday, to protest against planned pension reforms proposed by the Greek government.
According to the proposals Greece sent its lenders on Monday, all six main pension funds will be merged into one and future main pensions could be cut by up to 30 percent.
Over 60 percent of Greeks voted to reject austerity measures in a referendum last year; however the Syriza government eventually caved in to euro zone pressure and accepted new austerity measures in return for the release of much-needed funds.
