Russian wrestler Artem Surkov won gold in the men's 66kg (145lbs) Greco-Roman wrestling event at the European Games in Baku, Sunday, beating off Armenian Migran Arutyunyan in the final. The Russian athlete managed to defeat his Armenian counterpart 3-0 in the final, held in the Heydar Aliyev Arena. Speaking to press after the competition, Surkov said he expected to win all along and appreciated the support he felt from the fans watching the fight. The first European Games are running for 17 days, from June 12 to June 28, with over 6,000 athletes from 50 different countries participating in the competition.
