SOT, Ahmad Shaheen, Resident of Ras al-Ayn (Arabic): "I fled Ras al-Ayn from Erdogan's shelling. I was at work, I got out from the house, but I came back. There were warplanes over Ras al-Ayn, there were two or three warplanes, they started shelling over us. I came back home and found my brothers in. I said, 'let's flee, shelling is over us'. We packed our luggage and went out. We went on foot, we only had our luggage. We walked on the road with our luggage for three or four hours. We tried to hitchhike, but no cars stopped for us."

SOT, Resident of Ras al-Ayn (Arabic): "The whole neighbourhood took refuge. I fled Ras al-Ayn, my house is in the al-Mahatta area. We emerged from the shelling, we took the women and children. We were frightened for our women and children. We ran away from the shelling, we ran away from the fear. We remained for a whole day walking in the streets, our kids had to spend the night on the streets."

Footage filmed on Sunday shows internally displaced people (IDPs) being sheltered in Abd al-Ahad Mousa school in the Syrian city of al-Hasakah.
Hundreds of IDPs, including several families, are seeking refuge in the school after fleeing the Syrian border town of Ras al-Ayn.
One of the displaced people described their experience, saying: "We ran away from shelling, we ran away from fear. For a whole day we were walking on the streets, our kids were spending night on streets."
On October 9, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the beginning of a military operation in north-eastern Syria dubbed 'Operation Peace Spring’. Ankara says the aim of the Turkish offensive is to create a 'safe zone' cleared of Kurdish groups.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs estimates over 130,000 people have been displaced from the Syrian-Turkish border area since the start of the Turkish offensive.
