Hundreds of people rallied at the Helvetiaplatz in Zurich on Saturday, to support what they see as refugees’ right to a safe voyage from their home countries to Europe.
The protesters brought placards and banners reading "#Safepassage," with several people also carrying symbolic life jackets. Member of the Swiss Red Cross and Swiss entertainer Michael Grossenbacher were also present at the rally. Grossenbacher said the refugees “need that they have the legal possibility to get to Europe because these are victims, these refugees are coming from a war.” He also added that NATO intervention in the Aegean would only lead to an increase in smugglers’ profits and more danger for refugees.
Pro-refugee protests were held in several other cities across Europe on Saturday, all of them promoting the principle of refugees’ right to safe passage.
