SOT, Vladimir Zelenskiy, Ukrainian President (Ukrainian): "Germany is undoubtedly the key political and economic partner of Ukraine. Today we discussed several important issues. First of all, the most important issue, the most important issue for me, is achieving peace in Donbass. The chancellor reassured me that German position on that is unchanged, I am grateful for that. We are talking about the support for territorial integrity, sovereignty of Ukraine and maintaining sanctions on Russian Federation. It concerns both Donbass and occupied Crimea, and I am thankful for this unchanged position."

SOT, Vladimir Zelenskiy, Ukrainian President (Ukrainian): "We don’t want us and our European partners to suffer from sanctions that decided to stand with us to maintain the law and justice in Europe. But this is the one of the only possible and bloodless way to maintain peace in the continent, and it needs to be used till the end."

SOT, Vladimir Zelenskiy, Ukrainian President (Ukrainian): "Another important question that Chancellor Merkel and I discussed today is maintaining the energy security of Ukraine. Despite the fact that our position on Nord Stream 2 project is diametrically opposite, we are ready for a dialogue with Germany on this difficult question. Preserving transit of Russian gas through Ukraine and storing it in Ukrainian storage is the guarantee of energy security for Ukraine and Europe. This is civilized method of maintaining just and secure gas market."

SOT, Vladimir Zelenskiy, Ukrainian President (Ukrainian): "Sanctions, first of all, for us and for Russia, are the instrument. As we understand, if this instrument is not most effective, then we need to increase the quantity of such instruments. As for Mrs Merkel, I was standing next to her, and believe me, she was being taken care of."

SOT, Angela Merkel, German Chancellor (German): "We take these statements very serious [US claims that Iran is behind tanker attack] and there is high evidence. But that does not prevent me from saying that we need to do everything in our power to solve the situation around the conflict with Iran in a peaceful manner. Germany is campaigning for that. And that’s the reason why the Foreign Minister was in Iran. We are in close contact with our US partners and that’s a very serious situation. We know that. But we try and use our influence on all sides."
