Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel came full circle on Friday when he gave the commencement speech at the University of Southern California's Marshall School of Business. In his 10-minute talk, Spiegel discussed why he didn't sell Snapchat when Facebook reportedly came knocking.
He started by saying "I'm asked one question most often," and that people called Spiegel and cofounder Bobby Murphy "arrogant" and entitled — the same words, Spiegel said, often used to describe millennials.
"We do have a sense of entitlement, a sense of ownership, because, after all, this is the world we were born into, and we are responsible for it."
Despite that early success, Spiegel conceded he's stumbled along the way. He ultimately advised the class of 2015"You are going to make a lot of mistakes," "I've already made a ton of them — some of them very publicly — and it will feel terrible, but it will be OK. Just apologize as quickly as you can and pray for forgiveness."
