SOT, Paul Ziemiak, CDU General Secretary (German): "The original ‘C’ is represented at the party convention, not only symbolically as a letter on stage, but representing the values we stand for. And honestly speaking I am happy about the fact that there is a debate on the internet on the C and the values it represents. There can be different opinions but regarding the values that we stand for as CDU - I am happy about them. Many who are travelling here for the party convention are posting online about their respective personal C. Therefore I say this was one of many actions by Greenpeace and I view it without any anger - with a smile even, that they managed to do it."

SOT, Paul Ziemiak, CDU General Secretary (German): "We don't want any state to have an influence on our sensitive 5G infrastructure - both democratic and undemocratic states. We don't want foreign states to have an influence on our infrastructure."

SOT, Paul Ziemiak, CDU General Secretary (German): "To lead means to take responsibility, also for the things that go wrong. I don't think I have to tell anyone in this room that this was a difficult year for us. Both regarding election results, although we had good results too - in Bremen or Saxony. Let's be honest to ourselves. The way we have reacted to a video [by YouTuber rezo] - it was not the big CDU that deals with things in a calm manner. I don't know what your impression is, but I think we have learned something."

CDU (Christian Democratic Union) General Secretary Paul Ziemiak commended the activist group of Greenpeace for stealing the letter ‘C’ from the CDU party logo that stood outside their headquarters in the German capital city of Berlin, during a press conference on Thursday in Leipzig ahead of the party’s national convention.
Earlier in the day the activists managed to remove the letter ‘C’ from the Party headquarters, which stands for ‘Christian’, to protest against their environmental policies.
Ziemiak explained that “The original ‘C’ is represented at the party convention, not only symbolically as a letter on stage, but representing the values we stand for. And honestly speaking I am happy about the fact that there is a debate on the internet on the C and the values it represents.”
"There can be different opinions but regarding the values that we stand for as CDU - I am happy about them. Many who are traveling here for the party convention are posting online about their respective personal C. Therefore, I say this was one of many actions by Greenpeace and I view it without any anger - with a smile even that they managed to do it,” added Ziemiak.
The General Secretary also took the chance to clarify the Party stance on 5G infrastructures, remarking that they did not want any state to have an influence, as he answered a question on Huawei’s possible involvement in developing a 5G network in the country, and concluded the press conference admitting the Party’s mistakes in the recent year, as he referred to bad election results and the way they reacted to criticisms.
