Video Reveals the Desperate Scramble to Safety for Mediterranean Migrants

Desperate migrants scramble to safety in new footage of a Mediterranean Sea rescue from May 4. The clip shows migrants packed onto a sinking rubber dinghy, clambering up ropes and a ladder onto a privately owned cargo ship that came to their aid between Libya and Sicily. The footage, taken by a crew member on the Polish cargo ship Zeran, shows migrants jumping off their deflating dinghy to catch life preservers tossed into the water by Zeran crew members. Five bodies were recovered and brought ashore Tuesday along with the survivors to the port in Catania, Sicily. The aid group Save the Children said survivors had reported "dozens" of people died in the rescue Sunday between Libya and Sicily.
