SOT, Andy and Peter Wilberding, Competitors: “I probably started whistling when I was about ten and it seems a kind of an absent mind thing to do but if you get good at it, it’s a lot of fun and as you can see it’s a whole thing, there is a lot of people that do it, a lot of people that take it seriously.”

SOT, Akiko Shibata, Competitor: “I have to practice hard, hard and hard so I can reach high tone and low tone so I rehearse every day.”

SOT, Anne Kaufman “The Whistling Diva,” Event organiser: “We are judging the way you are going to judge any world championship competition. When you are looking for the best of the best in music you are looking for musicality, you are looking for professionalism, can you hit the notes? Is the song that you chose the right song for you? Are you in tune, are you sharp? Are you flat? Are you connecting with the audience?”

Professional and amateur musical whistlers took to the stage on Friday in Pasadena, California, to try and blow the competition away at the Masters of Musical Whistling International Festival and Competition.
Some participants performed accompanied by instruments while others also danced on the stage. Whistler Peter Wilberding, who said to have started whistling at the age of ten, assured that "it seems a kind of an absent mind thing to do but if you get good at it, it’s a lot of fun”, and added that "there is a lot of people that do it, a lot of people that take it seriously”.
The event's organiser Carole Anne Kaufman, also known as 'The Whistling Diva,' revealed what it takes to be a good musical whistler: "you are looking for musicality, you are looking for professionalism, can you hit the notes? Is the song that you chose the right song for you? Are you in tune, are you sharp? Are you flat? Are you connecting with the audience?”.
The winners of the festivals multiple competitions are set to be announced on Saturday during the closing ceremony.
