28.08.2016
Hundreds of anti-gun activists descended on the NRA (National Riffle Association) lobbying office in Washington, DC, on Saturday, to demand the introduction of stricter gun control laws.
The demonstration included participants from over 50 organisations, including the National Action network, American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and Gays Against Guns. Protesters are advocating far reaching gun law reforms, which will reduce the amount of firearms on the streets and implement more stringent background checks on those wishing to obtain firearms.
The mother of murdered community activist, Timothy Dawkins spoke to the crowds saying, "I am personally holding the NRA accountable and find them complicit in my son`s murder by blocking the common sense gun laws. My son and many others would be alive today if the NRA would stop paying lobbyist to block strict gun laws."
Protests against the Second Amendment have increased in the US following a series of high profile police shootings of African American men, the Orlando night club shooting and the Charleston Church shooting in South Carolina.
