While the advocates of the third term [of President Alpha Conde] want to organise the elections, they do it with the approval of the Prefect and the protection of the security and defence forces. When those who are against the third term wish to protest expressing their point of view, they get arrested, beaten up, imprisoned, judged and sentenced to unconditional imprisonment. This is how Alpha Conde's power is, it's a dictatorship."

At least four protesters were shot dead and one police officer was killed during protests against constitutional change in Conakry on Monday.
The demonstrations were called to oppose possible changes to to the constitution that would allow 81-year-old president Alpha Conde's, whose second and last mandate expires in 2020, to run for a third term.
The news caused the outrage amongst locals, who flooded the streets, erecting barricades, burning tyres and clashing with police officers.
One of Guinea's main opposition leaders Cellou Dalein Diallo, speaking to Ruptly, emphasised that the ruling elite was exercising its unlimited power on a repressed opposition. "When those who are against the third term wish to protest expressing their point of view, they get arrested, beaten up, imprisoned, judged and sentenced to unconditional imprisonment. This is how Alpha Conde's power is, it's a dictatorship."
Alpha Conde became West Africa's first democratically-elected leader in 2010, ending a two-year military dictatorship that was preceded by a quarter-century of rule by General Lansana Conte until his death in 2008.
