SOT, Davinia Falcon Marrero, First Lieutenant to the Mayor of Vega de San Mateo (Spanish): "The current situation doesn't look good at all, we're pretty desperate. We're trying to send good karma to our neighbours but we have evacuated the area of Risco Prieto since yesterday morning, and this afternoon we've had to evacuate the neighbourhood of Arinez, which the fire has reached. We've had another situation with a different fire in the neighbourhood of Camaretas, which was separate and apart from the current wildfire, which they've reportedly just put out. We're just waiting for this nightmare to end as soon as possible."

SOT, evacuated resident (Spanish): "Really, I'm very nervous. We prepared yesterday for a possible evacuation and today they notified us that we needed to evacuate out of precaution. The truth is I'm a bit angry because not even the smell of smoke has reached us. That's that though. They told us we had to abandon our homes and that's it, that's what we did."

Some 4,000 have been evacuated in the Spanish island of Gran Canaria, in the Canary Islands, as a wildfire wiped through populated areas on Sunday.
Footage shows smoke above the town of Vallesco, where the wildfire started, as well as refugees in Vega de San Mateo, a town south-east of the wildfire.
"The current situation doesn't look good at all, we're pretty desperate," said Davinia Falcon Marrero, First Lieutenant to the Mayor of Vega de San Mateo.
