Everything will be done to safeguard the security of the fans at Saturday's match between Germany and England in Berlin, Germany's team manager Joachim Loew said at a press conference in the German capital on Friday. He expressed confidence that the same principle will apply to the upcoming 2016 UEFA European Championship in France.
Loew said, however, that "nobody wants a game in an empty stadium - it would be disastrous." The national coach went on to assess Saturday's match, saying that "from a sports perspective, I already said it's [England] a good test-opponent with a competitive character. Germany versus England is always a special match."
The statements came after at least 31 people were killed and more than 250 injured in bomb attacks carried out at Brussels international airport and the Maelbeek metro station earlier in the week.
