Russian President Vladimir Putin met with his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko in Moscow, Tuesday, to discuss bilateral relations between the countries.
Putin told Lukashenko that “Russia remains the number one trade and economy partner for Belarus and Belarus is included as one of the top five biggest trade and economy partners of Russia.”
Talking about the effect of EU sanctions on Russian trade, Putin said that “last year we had a slight [trade] decrease and in the first six months of this year there was also a little decrease, about eight percent,” but “we assume that this was a temporary event.”
Lukashenko in turn thanked the Russian president for inviting him to Moscow and for the “good idea” of congratulating Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all Rus’ on his 70th birthday together with Putin.
