At least four firefighters have been killed, with several others left injured or still unaccounted for, after a fire at an oil depot in Kalynivka, near Kiev, triggered a series of huge explosions on Tuesday. Around 180 firefighters were at the scene trying to control the blaze, which started on Monday night, when a number of nearby oil tanks caught fire and exploded. In total seventeen oil tanks caught fire at the BRSM-Nafta facility at Kalynivka, just 20 km (12.5 miles) southwest of Kiev and the blaze currently remains out of control with several other gas storage tanks on the site still at risk of exploding. Some 62 firefighting units are currently involved in the operation along with three trains which are being used to deliver equipment and water supplies to the area. The fire initially broke out on Monday, killing one worker and injuring five others at the facility, which is capable of holding up to 15 tonnes of fuel.
