German Minister for Justice and Consumer Protection Heiko Maas held a press conference in Berlin on Thursday where he expressed the importance of tackling 'extremist violence' and 'radicalisation.' This meeting was part of a summit between the justice minister and his counterparts from each German state.
Maas discussed the programmes Germany is implementing to combat both far-right violence and "radicalisation" within Islamic communities.
Speaking about the extreme right, Maas highlighted the importance of tackling the problem online. He said, "we will also have to decisively deal with the issue of online hate crime, because this can be the starting point for extreme-right violence."
With regards to radicalisation, Maas said that programmes included working in cooperation with imams within Islamic communities.
