Thousands of doctors took to the streets of Cairo, Friday, to protest alleged police abuse of staff at a hospital in the Matariya suburb of the Egyptian capital.
The Egyptian Doctors' Syndicate, which held a meeting to discuss the case on Friday, estimated that around 4,000 doctors had turned out for the protest. One organiser called the turnout "historic."
Plainclothes policemen allegedly assaulted two doctors, eight nurses and one security administrator at a hospital in Matariya last month. The Syndicate has condemned the violence and called for the officers to be prosecuted.
