Germany: Govt. won't speculate on 'Brexit cancellation' after ECJ ruling

A panel of spokespeople for various German government ministries told journalists that while they consider Brexit to be "very regretful," the possibility of the UK cancelling it remains "just speculation," while speaking at a press conference in Berlin on Monday.
The press conference convened just hours after the European Court of Justice's (ECJ) decision to allow the UK to unilaterally stop Brexit.
When pressed on whether the German government would want Brexit to be reversed, government spokesperson Ulrike Demmer refused to speculate, however, she reiterated the government's "regret" over the UK's Brexit vote.
The panel also answered questions on a recent EU report that found 41 percent of Jewish respondents in Germany had faced anti-Semitic harassment in the past year, calling it "shocking."
Interior Ministry Spokesperson Eleonore Petermann said that the Federal Government Commissioner for Jewish Life in Germany, which was established in 2018, was well-integrated into the Interior Ministry and had already worked successfully.
In response to the report, Demmer emphasised: "The memories of 80 years ago remind us to defend the values of democracy, and that is also with regards to ensuring Jews can safely live in our country."
