A news anchor on Korean Central television stated that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un had successfully overseen fresh ballistic missile tests, during a broadcast from Pyongyang on Sunday.
"The supreme leader of our party, state and armed forces, Comrade Kim Jong-un, on the 24th of August, guided the test firing of a newly developed, super-large, multiple rocket launcher," the presenter said.
Officials from the South Korean military said that the North had fired two short-range missile on Saturday, flying some 235 miles (380km) off its east coast.
Saturday's launch was the seventh such missile test by North Korea since US President Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un met in the demilitarised zone on the inter-Korean border in June.
A statement from North Korea's foreign minister on Friday said that Pyongyang will try to remain 'America's biggest threat' if the US continues imposing sanctions.
The latest tests come amid fresh tensions in the region after Japan labelled South Korean military exercises in contested territory as 'unacceptable.'
