Brazil: Unelected government is risk for country, warns Rousseff

Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff addressed the nation from the Palacio do Planalto Brasilia, on Thursday, following the Senate’s decision to suspend her from office for 180 days while they continue the impeachment process.
During her speech, Rousseff warned about what she sees as the destablising effects of her impeachment. She said, "The biggest risk for the country right now is for it to be directed by a government of unelected people; a government that didn't get elected through direct vote by the Brazilian population. Such a government won't have the legitimacy to implement and propose solutions for Brazil's challenges."
The Senate voted 55 to 22 in favour of impeaching Brazil’s first female president, who will now be suspended for up to six months while a committee investigates whether she broke the country's budget laws ahead of her re-election in 2014.
Brazil's Vice President Michel Temer will serve as acting president throughout the trial, ending 13 years of rule by the Workers' Party. If Rousseff is convicted, Temer will serve as president until the end of 2018.
Rousseff is due to thank her supporters alongside former president of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, just after signing the documents confirming her suspension.
