Panama: Around 12,000 visitors flood to see Canal expansion project

Panamanian residents and other tourists were invited by Panama's Canal authority to tour inside the Panama Canal expansion project in a once-in-a-lifetime event in Cocoli, Sunday. Engineer and Administrator of the Panama Canal Authority Jorge Luis Quijano said that the number of visitors "exceeded 11 to 12,000 people", before going on to state that the team "expect to finish the construction of the whole expansion by the end of this year at the very latest the early part of next year like January". Construction work on the third set of locks is set to allow Post-Panamax vessels too big to travel through the old locks, to pass through.
