Forces backed by the United Arab Emirates were seen patrolling the streets of Aden on Thursday, days after two of their fighters were killed in clashes with nominal allies who are loyal to the Saudi-backed government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi.
The unit of around 20 fighters, armed and in full camo, stood on the back of Toyota trucks and were followed by a crowd of people.
This week's violence highlighted a rift within the Saudi-UAE coalition supposed to be battling the Houthi movement.
The two sides are understood to have different visions for Yemen's future. The UAE support southern Yemeni politicians campaigning for secession, while Hadi, whose main backer is Saudi Arabia, opposes such a move.
