Hundreds of taxis blocked Sao Paulo's city hall on Thursday in protest against proposals to create new legislation which will legalise ride-sharing service Uber. Sao Paulo will create a new class of taxis called 'black cabs,' which will transfer passengers using the Uber service, Sao Paulo's mayor Fernando Haddad said earlier in the day, adding that 5,000 permits will be issued. Uber slammed the decision in a statement in which it rejected to be classified as a taxi service. Sao Paolo's city council passed a bill banning ride-sharing services like Uber earlier this month due to massive protests by taxi drivers. Haddad's decision repealed the vote, giving Uber a grace period in Sao Paulo.
