UK's deputy permanent representative to the UN Jonathan Allen blasted Russia for "fuelling" the conflict in eastern Ukraine, during a press statement ahead of the UN Security Council meeting in New York City on Tuesday.
"We call on Russia to immediately stop fuelling the conflict by providing financial and military support to the armed foundations," Allen said, adding that they don't recognise "the illegal annexation of the Crimean Peninsula" and urged Russia to implement the Minsk agreements.
At a later UN Security Council session, Russian representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said "it is obvious to us that the West is not interested in Ukraine itself," but that "for them Ukraine is a mere pawn in the geopolitical confrontation with Russia."
He urged the UNSC to read the document of the Minsk agreements which "do not say a word about Russia."
US acting representative to the UN Jonathan Cohen stated that "it's Russia that must end this conflict."
