German Chancellor Angela Merkel stated that ‘the door remained open for negotiations with Greece’, during a joint address to press with French President Francois Hollande, in Paris, Monday. The chancellor stated that she and the Eurozone were waiting for ‘clear proposals from Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’, and that the heads of the Eurozone will meet to discuss the ramifications of Sunday’s bailout referendum. Merkel was in Paris to discuss the future of the European Union with her French counterpart. Hollande took the opportunity to assert that he both ‘respected the result’ of the bailout referendum, and the message from ‘Greece’s democratic parties who reaffirmed their commitment to remain in the Eurozone.’ In the Greek referendum on Sunday, 61.3 percent of registered voters opted for 'No' on the bailout terms proposed by foreign creditors compared to the 38.7 percent who voted 'Yes'. Varoufakis resigned shortly after the referendum results were announced, explaining on his blog that Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Greece's creditors saw his resignation as "potentially helpful ... in reaching an agreement". He fired a parting shot at his erstwhile political enemies, however, writing that he would "wear the creditors' loathing with pride.”
