US comedian and actor Bill Cosby was seen leaving the Montgomery County Courthouse in Norristown, Pennsylvania, Tuesday, where he participated in a pre-trial facing criminal charges of sexual assault against Andrea Constand.
Tuesday's hearing was aimed at determining if 13 accusers will be allowed to testify. Cosby's defence attorneys argue that because he is blind he cannot identify the accusers.
Speaking at a press conference, Constand's attorney, Gloria Allred, said, "If the 13 prior bad act witnesses are permitted to testify that they were drugged and raped by Mr. Cosby, that if in fact there is a pattern of drugging and raping or sexually assaulting women, then that would show or prove that in fact the defendant did not mistake the fact that women did not consent."
Cosby was charged in December with drugging and molesting Andrea Constand in 2004. Constand, a former Temple University employee, alleges that Cosby drugged and sexually assaulted her in his home in Cheltenham. Constand previously settled a civil case against Cosby for an undisclosed sum in 2006. Cosby and his legal team have denied the allegations, claiming the encounter was consensual.
If convicted, Cosby could face up to 10 years in prison and a $25,000 (€23,800) fine. Cosby maintains his innocence.
