Iraq: Govt. forces battle IS on outskirts of Mosul

Iraqi Army Forces were caught in heavy ground fighting with the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL) near the village of Albzon, Thursday, as anti-IS forces continue to the fight to retake the city from the militant group.
The latest operation to retake Mosul began on October 17. Spearheaded by the Iraqi army and Kurdish militia, with United States-led coalition support, troops are working to encircle the city cutting off supply lines and liberating nearby towns.
Mosul was captured by IS in 2014. According to Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, around 3,000-5,000 IS members are estimated to be holed up in Mosul and another 1,500-2,500 in the outskirts.
