26.07.2016
Footage captured construction work on what is expected to become the largest Yazidi temple in the world, in the village of Aknalich near Yerevan on Tuesday.
Once finished, the Quba Mere Diwane complex will have a conference hall, a seminary and a museum with construction expected to be completed in 2017. Prior to major renovations it was the main temple in Armenia for Yazidis from Lalish in northern Iraq.
The complex will be made of granite and marble and will boast seven domes, each symbolising the seven Yazidi archangels. The domes will be positioned around one central structure which will represent revered Yazidi angel, Melek Taus. The 25m (82 feet) high temple will be crowned with a gold-plated sun while inside there will be a 200 square metre prayer hall.
