Both the USA and Sweden — two powerhouses stuck in the "Group of Death" at the 2015 Women's World Cup — have their sights firmly set on ending the tournament here in Vancouver, where a final match at BC Place Stadium will crown an ultimate winner on July 5.
First, however, the two sides will clash this Friday in Winnipeg, 1,400 miles east of their desired final destination, in a match that promises to be among the most gripping of the World Cup's group stage. No other group-play match will feature two teams so highly regarded: The U.S. sits second in FIFA's world rankings; Sweden is fifth.
But that's not all that makes USA-Sweden a must-watch group stage affair. The showdown is packed with an additional layer of juicy drama centered around Sweden coach Pia Sundhage, who used to coach for the U.S.
