Iraq: Iraqi forces battle IS in suburbs of Mosul

Iraqi forces advanced into the city of Mosul in the ongoing fight against the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL), footage from Tuesday shows.
Iraq's US-trained Counter Terrorism Service (CTS) reportedly led the fight in the suburb of Kokjali, where officials said they had defeated IS forces, allowing the military operation to advance into Mosul itself.
The latest operation to retake control of the Islamic State stronghold of Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city, began on October 17. Troops deployed tanks, artillery and machine guns to drive IS out of the city, which was captured by the group in 2014.
According to Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, around 3,000-5,000 IS members are estimated to be holed up in Mosul and another 1,500-2,500 in the outskirts.
