Pavel Karaulov, the father of second year philosophy student Varvara Karaulova who recently seemed to join the Islamic State group (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL), said that his daughter is ready to return home and the Turkish authorities asked him to buy a plane ticket for her, in Batman on Monday. Karaulov hopes "that no charges will be brought against her" and that he will be allowed to accompany her home, after the Turkish authorities have finished their investigation. Karaulov managed to see his daughter in a five minute meeting in Batman where she is being held, close to the Turkish - Syrian border. Varvara Karaulova's father also reported that his daughter was under under heavy psychological pressure and affirmed that her family will do their utmost to support her without reproach. Karaulova began to develop a keen interest in Islam in her degree, beginning to dress more conservatively when on campus at Moscow State University. Her families were purportedly unaware of her religious conversion and were very surprised when she went missing. Investigations employing tracking software found that Karaulova had taken an Aeroflot flight to Istanbul, going on to Syria from there, a path travelled by many of IS' foreign recruits.
