Italy Says 4,100 Boat Migrants Rescued in Ongoing Weekend Mission

Italy's coast guard and navy said, nearly 4,100 migrants were rescued from boats near the coast of Libya on Saturday and Sunday and rescue operations continued as people smugglers took advantage of calm seas. All of those rescued were being brought to Italian shores, with some already arriving at Lampedusa, Italy's southernmost island, and Trapani, Sicily. The smugglers make an average of 80,000 euros ($90,000) from each boatload, according to an ongoing investigation by an Italian court.
