A convoy of Turkish military vehicles was seen making its way towards the south-eastern province of Diyarbakir as tensions rise in the city of Silvan. The convoy was reportedly dispached from Urfa and included tanks and howitizers. Earlier on Friday the Turkish Army and police launched an assault on the predominantely Kurdish city of Silvan, killing at least 17 suspected Kurdish Worker's Party (PKK) militants. The assault follows reports that two Turkish soldiers were shot dead by PKK militants on Thursday. Teams from the anti-terrorism brigade were deployed in Friday's offensive, reportedly targeting at least three of the city's predominately Kurdish neighbourhoods. A curfew has been imposed in Silvan whilst the operation is conducted.
