Russian Federal Space Agency (Roscomos) cosmonauts Sergei Ryzhikov and Andrei Borisenko, alongside NASA astronaut Shane Kimbrough held a press briefing ahead of their mission to the International Space Station (ISS) later this month at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Centre in Russia’s Star City on Friday.
The crew discussed how they would spend their time on the mission, as well as items they planned to take with them from earth. Ryzikov admitted he was probably “very similar” to previous cosmonauts in wanting to take “pictures of my family and my friends,” as well as “flags and symbols of the cities and places where I’ve lived and studied.” Borisenko said was excited to take pictures of earth from space; “I’ve been a lot of places” he said “I would like to take pictures of all those places.”
Kimbrough spoke of over 200 experiments the crew plan to conduct while on their mission, “it’s going to be an amazing science return for the people here on the ground” he promised.
The Expedition 49/50 crew will embark on the five-month mission to the ISS aboard a Soyuz spacecraft from Kazakhstan’s Baikonur Cosmodrome on September 24.
