28.10.2016
The Belgian region of Wallonia voted in favour of the EU-Canada trade deal CETA (Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement), at the Walloon Parliament in Namur on Friday.
The deal was approved by 58 votes to five by parliamentarians in Wallonia. Wallonia had previously blocked the trade deal.
The CETA is expected to yield billions in added trade through tariff cuts and other measures to lower barriers to commerce between the EU and Canada. However, critics of the deal have expressed concern that it would damage consumer and worker protections within the EU.
