One of Russia's top military officers denied that Turkey had shot down a Russian drone, during a briefing to press in Moscow on Friday. Colonel-General Andrei Kartapolov, the Head of the Main Operations Directorate of the Russian General Staff, said "all our drones are located either in the regions where they operate or at the airbase." His statement comes after Turkish authorities publicised that it had downed an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAH), commonly known as a drone, after it entered its airspace earlier on Friday. Kartapolov also reported that the so-called Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) and Jabhat al-Nusra terrorists were fleeing into Turkey from the Hatay and Aleppo Provinces, stating that "discontent among the terrorists' field commanders is growing and there is evidence of disobedience and desertion on a massive scale." The operation chief stated a total of "394 sorties were conducted and 346 targets were hit" over the last week. Kartapolov vowed that "our strikes on ISIS terrorists in Syria will continue as new reliable information about targets becomes available."
