High Heels to Blame for Rise in Agonising Foot Condition

The number of people diagnosed with Morton's Neuroma -- also known as interdigital or intertarsal -- affects the nerve running between the toes. Women are eight to ten times more likely than men to suffer from the condition, and the largest group of sufferers being women aged between 40 and 69.
According to orthopedic research fellow Andrew Craig, "We have known for a long time that the condition seems to predominantly affect females of a middling age, with speculation that high heels and other such tightly fitting and unnatural footwear - despite looking fabulous, I'm sure - may play a role."
