Syria: YPG Kurdish fighters claim to capture key strategic town of Tal Abyad

Kurdish fighters of the People's Protection Units (YPG) have claimed to have captured the key strategic Syrian town of Tal Abyad, Monday, the administrative centre of the northern Raqqa district of Syria. YPG fighters too control of the main Raqqa-Tal Abyad road and surrounded the town of Tal Abyad, close to the Turkish border. A YPG spokesperson said that the town is now under control of the YPG fighters. The Kurdish militia also said that they liberated the border crossing between Tal Abyad and Turkey. Clashes between the Islamic State and Kurdish fighters forced around 16,000 people to flee the region in the last two weeks, with 3,000 arriving at the Akcakale border crossing with Turkey on Monday.
