Charleston church shooting survivor Felecia Sanders gave an emotional statement to suspect Dylann Roof in Charleston's courthouse, Friday, as he attended a hearing to face nine charges of murder and one charge of possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. Sanders lost her 26-year-old son Tywanza Sanders in the attack and only survived herself by playing dead. The 57-year-old grandmother was one of only three people to survive the shooting. Speaking to Roof, who appeared in court via video link, Sanders said "you have killed some of the most beautiful people that I have known. Every fiber in my body hurts and it will never be the same." She concluded her statement to the shooting suspect by saying "may God have mercy on you." Roof reportedly sat for one hour of a Bible study class at the Emanuel AME Church, before shooting nine churchgoers on Wednesday evening. Roof is believed to have confessed to the killings and was charged with nine counts of murder and one charge for possession of a firearm. In court the suspect only spoke via video link when the judge asked him a question and otherwise remained silent for the rest of the hearing. Relatives of the victims addressed Roof one by one personally, some saying they had forgiven him for what he has done. Roof killing nine people is being treated as a hate crime and his bond has been set at $1 million (€879,000).
