Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met with the Senate President of the Philippines Franklin Drilon in Moscow, Monday, to discuss bilateral relations and the upcoming 2015 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. Lavrov confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin will participate in the APEC meeting. "President Putin has accepted the invitation of President Aquino to take part in the APEC summit that will take place in November this year in Manila," he said. The Russian FM also stressed the effective work of the Filipino authorities during the APEC chairmanship, adding that this work is aimed at making APEC summit in the Philippines "successful" and working towards achieving "concrete decisions" which will "normalise" the situation in terms of global economy and finances as well as to "push forward" reforms in international monetary and financial systems and links. According to Drilon, the Filipino government appreciates the opportunity to preside APEC summit 2015. "We look forward on this occasion to the two leaders to adapt the joint statement on enhancing cooperation which will change the future direction between our two countries as well as the signing of other agreements particularly on consular assistance, on emergency assistance and on cooperation on transnational crimes," said Drilon.
